Learners are introduced to the world of inventory management and supply chains. We look at ways to match supply to the demand i.e through outsourcing or temporary and part time work. We also look at inventory control charts and factors that make a good reliable supplier.

In this double lesson, we start by discussing how change can be monitored for students in their learning, we then start applying this discussion to businesses. We go through different types of quantitative and qualitative data that could come up in resource 2 for the 16 marker before roleplaying a change mangaement meeting. Students then prepare a presentation on monitoring the change management process before attempting a 16 mark question. Peer assessment grid and indicative content given to help students reflect on improving their answers. We finish off with a debate, box plenary and a kahoot quiz.

This triple lesson introduces learners to the importance of having good relationships with suppliers and what makes a good supplier.Real life examples from Tesco and Vi Spring, a 6 mark context question with a modelled answer to develop exam technique. Plenty of consolidation activities to differentiate between JIT and JIC.
In the second lesson, we look at bar gate stock graphs, all broken down so it is easy to understand for students and a few 3 mark questions with answers to self or peer assess.
In the third lesson, students are given a scenario and must decide which supplier to pick for a chocolate company, they are given data and must weigh up the pros and cons of each supplier, before coming to a judgement - done well in groups.

This lesson introduces learners to competition, competitive advantage and what makes a market competitive. We go through each way a business can gain advantage, then we contextualise each of these ways. Real examples of how businesses compete with each other, rather than competing on price.
We then go on to look at what risks businesses face (specific to the AQA spec) such as new competitors, changing legislation and more. We then look at what businesses can do to minimise these risks by completing a business plan, invest in training and also by completing a SWOT analysis.SWOT analysis task included where students use one of the businesses given and look at their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Two 3 mark questions with model answers to build exam technique.

We then look at a concise case study of a firm that requires capital but wants to only use internal finance - a 12 mark question on this with structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to use when peer assessing. A peer assessment grid and how it is used by examiners is provided for students to make improves on WWW and EBI.
We then go on to consolidating the knowledge with some matching and recall activities before a group activity, students are put into groups and given scenarios that require finance, students decide which sources of finance are most appropriate for scenario and present ideas back to class. Class then decides who the weakest link is (encouraging application and evaluation skills)
A case study and 12 mark question on venture capital is included, structure guidance and a concise model answer is provided to help students develop their exam technique. A link to a kahoot quiz and box plenary to finish off with. I have found this to be a very engaging set of lessons personally.

We start by introducing the concepts of revenue, cost and profit through step by step animated examples before playing the hotel game. A few calculation activities to consolidate the formulas learnt by students with answers provided on the board for students to peer assess with.
A 4 mark exam style calculation question with answers provided, 2 student answers are also provided for students to see how marks are given in these types of questions.
We then go on to look at what contribution is before understanding break even and margin of safety. Lots of calculation practice to consolidate the formula, we then look at the pros and cons of using break even analysis, this is used for the exam style question which is based on a concise case study of a cake manufacturer. We start by looking at the importance of a positive cash flow, and how to construct a cash flow forecast from scratch step by step. Students then go on to consolidate this by creating a cash flow forecast for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop, some further calculation practice followed.
